West Ham are still waiting on the outcome of the FA’s investigation into Lucas Paquetá, and sports lawyer Mo Pasricha has pointed to a possible reason for the hold-up.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday, Pasricha suggested there could be “evidence that undermines his position,” which might explain the prolonged process.
No Verdict After 14 Months
Paquetá has been under investigation for over a year. The FA is examining whether the midfielder intentionally received yellow cards during four matches to influence betting markets. He’s denied the allegations throughout.
WestHamZone reports that the inquiry has now stretched into a second summer, with insiders at the club increasingly frustrated. The delay is also affecting West Ham’s summer transfer strategy, as head coach Graham Potter waits for clarity to finalise his plans.
Missed Move and Mental Strain
Sources at WestHamZone also say the situation has taken a toll on Paquetá himself, both mentally and in terms of form. Before the charge emerged, the Brazilian was reportedly on the verge of an £80 million move to Manchester City.
Pasricha reflected on that moment, telling talkSPORT: “Where was he at the trajectory, if you take that moment in time, he had some of the top clubs in the world and I am sure there is opportunities that unfortunately he is not able to take and pursue.”
Potter Left in Limbo
The ongoing uncertainty is making it difficult for Potter to press on with his squad rebuild. According to WestHamZone, how the club proceeds this window could hinge on the verdict.
If Paquetá is cleared, West Ham have a decision to make: stick with him or sell to raise funds. If he’s banned, broadcaster Ian Darke believes the club may rely on a force majeure clause in his contract, which could allow them to escape financial obligations should wrongdoing be confirmed.
Growing Pressure for Decision
As things stand, WestHamZone notes that all parties involved (from the club to the player himself) remain in limbo. The longer the delay, the harder it becomes for everyone to move forward.
