West Ham are in discussions to sign Girona’s Arnau Martinez, according to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto.
The 22-year-old defender has a €14 million release clause, and the club is reportedly weighing up a move as Graham Potter looks to reinforce his defence.
Martinez Fits West Ham’s Summer Transfer Plans

Martinez made 39 appearances for Girona last season and is regarded as one of the standout young defenders in La Liga. He can operate both at right-back and centre-back, which makes him a strong tactical fit for Potter’s system.
His current contract runs until 2027, but the release clause gives clubs an open door to act. West Ham are understood to see the Spaniard as a direct solution to their shortage at right-back.
Lack of Depth After Coufal Exit
Following Vladimir Coufal’s departure, Aaron Wan-Bissaka remains the only senior right-back in the squad. The former Manchester United man was outstanding in his debut campaign, winning Player of the Season after 36 Premier League appearances.
But with no clear backup in place, addressing this position has become a priority for the claret and blue. Martinez is now being considered the leading option.

Reliable Source Behind the Rumour

West Ham X Account @_WestHamReport added weight to the story by stating: “The source who broke the Arnau Martinez talks is said to be very reliable.”
They noted that while it doesn’t guarantee a signing, it confirms the defender has been discussed seriously in football circles in connection with the Irons.
Other Names Still on the List

Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza is also being tracked, though Martinez appears to be ahead in the pecking order. His ability to cover multiple roles across the backline is seen as a major advantage.
The Hammers are also working on a deal for El Hadji Malick Diouf, a promising left-back from Slavia Prague. Reports suggest the Czech side are already preparing for his departure.
