Two Key West Ham Players Left Out of US tour Due to Injury

Crysencio Summerville has not travelled with the West Ham squad for their pre-season tour of the United States, with the player continuing his recovery from a hamstring issue. George Earthy was also left behind, as Graham Potter begins shaping his squad ahead of the new season.

According to the Evening Standard, the decision was made not to risk either player, both of whom are seen as potentially important figures under Potter for the 2024/25 campaign.

Summerville recovering in London after hamstring issue

Summerville, who joined West Ham last summer, is undergoing rehab at Rush Green after picking up a hamstring injury last season in a game against Aston Villa (Graham Potter’s first game). The 22-year-old had joined the team at their recent training camp in Germany but didn’t train with the main squad, instead working on individual sessions.

Medical staff advised against flying him across the Atlantic as it could delay his recovery, so he remained in London to continue treatment.

West Ham are hopeful Summerville can return to full training once the tour wraps up, though there’s still some doubt about whether he’ll be fit for the opening weeks of the Premier League season.

He hasn’t played since January and the club are taking a cautious approach to avoid any setbacks in his recovery.

Earthy missing tour as he recovers from ankle issue

George Earthy is also unavailable for the United States tour after picking up an ankle injury just before the squad headed to Germany.

The problem isn’t thought to be serious, but the club haven’t set a specific timeline for his return yet.

Earthy had been tipped to play a key role in pre-season after an impressive loan spell at Bristol City. Alongside Freddie Potts, he’s one of the academy products Potter is keeping a close eye on ahead of the new campaign.

The hope is that Earthy can recover in time for the Premier League opener away at Sunderland on August 16.

Alvarez to join US tour after extended break

Edson Alvarez, likely to stay with the Hammers, will reunite with the squad in the US after being given additional time off following Mexico’s Gold Cup triumph.

He captained his country to the title earlier this summer and has been given a short break before rejoining the group.

Alvarez is expected to link up with the Hammers between the first and second games of the tour.

West Ham pre-season schedule and squad updates

West Ham are competing in the Premier League Summer Series while in the US, with matches scheduled against:

  • Manchester United (Sunday)
  • Everton (Wednesday)
  • Bournemouth (August 3)

New signing Kyle Walker-Peters is part of the travelling squad after arriving from Southampton on a free transfer. The 28-year-old full-back brings experience and versatility to Potter’s squad as preparations continue for the manager’s debut season in charge.
