Niclas Fullkrug has caught the eye of West Ham United manager Graham Potter during the club’s pre-season training camp in Germany, according to ExWHUEmployee.
The striker is said to have returned in excellent shape as he looks to bounce back from a frustrating first season in east London.
Potter is currently running his first full summer in charge as the Irons prepare for the 2025/26 campaign.
Fullkrug stands out at West Ham’s German training base
The Hammers are currently staying at the Öschberghof Hotel in Donaueschingen, with sessions taking place nearby at SV Aasen. A local outlet (Gränzbote) reported that although the sessions are closed to the public, around 50 supporters watched on from a distance.
Fullkrug made time for fans after training, signing autographs and taking photos. The 32-year-old also joked about his fitness work during the off-season, telling supporters, “I’ve lost six kilograms, but there’ll be no more than that now, otherwise the boys would knock me over.”
According to ExWHUEmployee, Potter has been impressed with the German forward’s application since returning to camp.
“I’ve been told the manager is very impressed with how well Fullkrug is doing,” he said on The West Ham Way Podcast. “He’s looking fit, sharp, and focused. Graham Potter is very happy with him.”
Striker aiming to move on from difficult debut season
Fullkrug arrived at the London Stadium in a £27 million deal last summer, but struggled to make an impact during his debut campaign. He scored just three goals in 18 Premier League appearances, with injuries disrupting his form and consistency.
Speculation has surrounded his future in recent weeks, with suggestions the club could consider offloading him. However, Potter’s arrival has given players a chance to reset, and Fullkrug appears to be taking that opportunity.
West Ham preparing for Grasshoppers clash and US tour
The Irons will wrap up their Germany camp with a friendly against Swiss side Grasshoppers Zurich this Saturday. After that, the squad will travel to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series, where they are scheduled to face Manchester United, Bournemouth, and Everton.
According to ExWHUEmployee, the club are also close to finalising the signing of El Hadji Malick Diouf. The young defender is expected to join the squad in Germany before flying out with the team to the US.
Despite Fullkrug’s strong start to pre-season, West Ham remain active in the transfer market and are still looking to strengthen their options up front.
