Mohammed Kudus’s transfer to Tottenham and his comments about being “team-orientated” have not gone down well with West Ham United fans.
It wasn’t just the move across London that sparked backlash, but the tone of Kudus’s unveiling as a Spurs player has added insult to injury for many Hammers supporters.
Kudus Becomes First Player in 14 Years to Switch from West Ham to Tottenham
Kudus made history as the first player in over 14 years to move directly from West Ham to Tottenham, and the reaction from supporters has been intense. The rivalry between the two London sides is already charged, so a straight move like this was always going to rile up fans.
But it was Kudus’s first Spurs interview that really struck a nerve. He stated, “I’m very team-orientated. So my personal goals are around helping the team get as many points as we can… and go as far as we can in the Champions League.”
For many at the London Stadium, those words rang hollow.
West Ham Camp Dismisses Kudus’ “Team-Orientated” Remarks
Hammers News were blunt in their reaction, calling Kudus’s quote a “bare-faced lie.” The report recalled earlier concerns about his teamwork and attitude, citing a jokey but telling moment when Michail Antonio described Kudus as “selfish” in a club video, adding: “he doesn’t pass.”
While that exchange was delivered in the typical dressing room style, some fans and insiders now feel the remark may have aired genuine frustrations about Kudus’s role on the pitch.
Reports of Dressing Room Friction and Attitude Issues
There have also been reports of an alleged bust-up last season between Kudus and then-manager Julen Lopetegui. The confrontation is said to have happened during half-time of a match against Brentford after Kudus was criticised for playing too selfishly.
It’s claimed Lopetegui had to step in to calm things down after Kudus lashed out in the dressing room. The Ghanaian forward reportedly became disruptive in training during the final weeks of his West Ham spell, at times arriving late or missing sessions. It all added to the pressure on the club to sell as they looked to stay within Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Limited Market for Kudus Before Spurs Stepped In
Despite Kudus declaring, “I only wanted Spurs,” there is doubt on the idea that he turned down a list of elite clubs. According to reports, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich all passed on making a move, while Chelsea’s interest never turned into a formal bid.
In the end, Spurs were the only clear option on the table.
More salt in the wound for some fans came when Kudus was thought to have left without any public thank you to West Ham supporters. However despite a recent instagram post where he said his farewell to the hammers, there are still plenty fans dubbing him “Kudus the Judas.”
West Ham Internally Unbothered by Kudus Exit
Despite the noise from outside, manager Graham Potter and the West Ham board are said to be relaxed about the situation, With the player pushing to go and financial limitations in play, the decision to let Kudus walk wasn’t seen as much of a gamble.
Even so, the outlet ended their report with a word of warning for the Spurs faithful: if the going gets tough or a bigger club comes knocking, they question whether Kudus’s team-first mantra will actually stick.
